Three Practical Tips for Wearing a Jade Plaque Every Day

Three simple habits that help a Hetian jade plaque stay comfortable, clean and less exposed to avoidable damage.

Daily wear is one of the pleasures of a jade plaque. You get to notice the touch, the changing light and the way the surface becomes familiar. A few ordinary habits make a bigger difference than an elaborate care routine.

Choose a secure, comfortable cord

Check the knot and the cord loop before you leave home. The plaque should sit flat rather than twist constantly. Rounded edges help, but a heavy pendant can still swing into a table, door frame or belt buckle. Take it off for sports, rough work and any activity where the cord could snag.

Keep jade away from hard contact

Nephrite is tough, not indestructible. Do not let a plaque share a pocket with keys, coins or metal hardware. Remove it before sleeping if the cord catches easily, and take extra care when changing clothes. A 9.5 mm plaque has a reassuring weight, but that weight can increase the force of an impact.

Give it a gentle wipe

After wearing, wipe the plaque with a soft, clean cloth. If it needs more, use a little clean water and dry it fully. Avoid bleach, alcohol, abrasive powders, chemical cleaners and ultrasonic devices. Heat and prolonged direct sun are also best avoided, especially when a cord, coating or other attached material is involved.

A small habit that helps with buying too

Keep the current photographs, dimensions, invoice and certificate information together. Natural jade has individual tone and inclusions. Those records help you recognise your own piece after months of wear and make any future insurance or independent check much easier.
