How to Store a Jade Plaque When You Are Not Wearing It
Simple storage habits that help prevent scratches, cord damage, moisture problems and confusion between similar jade pieces.
Good storage is quiet and uncomplicated. The main risks are hard contact, a damaged cord, heat and losing track of which report belongs to which plaque.
Give each piece its own soft space
Use a soft pouch or a lined box with enough room for the plaque to lie flat. Do not stack jade pieces face to face, and do not place metal jewellery, keys or loose stones in the same compartment. A sculptural 10.6 mm plaque needs a little extra clearance around its relief and edges.
Store the cord without tension
Do not wind a cord tightly around the plaque. Tight bends weaken fibres and can pull against a drilled hole or clasp. Lay the cord loosely beside the piece, and inspect the knot before the next wear.
Choose a stable room
A normal, dry room away from radiators, windowsills and bathrooms is suitable. Avoid prolonged dampness, extreme heat and direct sunlight. Jade itself is not a sponge, but attached materials and storage linings can hold moisture.
Keep the paper trail together
Store the certificate, invoice, dimensions, weight and current photographs in the same labelled place. This is especially useful when you own several white plaques with similar sizes. A quick photo of the plaque beside its report can save confusion years later.
