How to Care for a Hetian Jade Plaque

A practical care guide for cleaning, wearing and protecting a natural Hetian jade plaque without unnecessary products.

Hetian jade is durable enough for regular wear, but it still benefits from ordinary care. You do not need a cabinet full of special liquids. A soft cloth, clean water and a little attention to impact are usually enough.

Clean gently

Wipe the plaque with a soft, lint-free cloth after wearing. If dust or perspiration has built up, use a small amount of clean water, then dry the piece fully. Avoid bleach, alcohol, abrasive powders, strong detergents, chemical jewellery dips and ultrasonic cleaners. These can affect attached materials or leave residues in carved recesses.

Protect the surface from impact

Nephrite is tough, but a sharp impact can still chip an edge or create a fracture. Remove the plaque for sport, heavy lifting, rough travel and sleep if the cord could catch. Keep it away from keys, coins and metal jewellery when it is not being worn.

Be sensible about heat and light

Avoid prolonged direct sun, high heat and sudden temperature changes. Let the plaque return to room temperature before cleaning it. Rounded edges and a substantial profile improve comfort, but they do not make a piece impact-proof.

Keep the original photographs, dimensions and certificate with your care notes. Natural jade develops familiarity through wear, while its individual tone and inclusions remain part of its identity.
