How to Choose Jade Plaque Thickness
Compare 6 mm, 8.5 mm, 9.5 mm and 10.6 mm jade plaques by hand feel, stability, carving depth and daily wear.
Thickness is one of the easiest jade plaque details to overlook online. It changes the hand feel, the drop on a cord, the room available for carving and the way a plaque meets your clothing. There is no universally ideal number. The right choice depends on the shape and the way you plan to wear it.
What a slim 6 mm profile feels like
The 10.5 g gold-skin peace plaque in our collection is 39 x 23 x 6 mm. It is light, easy to layer and comfortable under a shirt. A slim plaque can feel less substantial in the hand, but that is exactly what some daily wearers prefer. Its simple wushi outline keeps the design legible without needing extra depth.
Where 8.5 to 9.5 mm sits
An 8.5 mm landscape plaque gives a broad composition enough body while remaining practical for regular wear. Our 32.5 g Jiangnan piece uses that balance for a scene that continues across the reverse. At 9.5 mm, the 17.1 g peace plaque feels more weighty and steady. Rounded edges make that extra body comfortable against the skin and less likely to catch at a collar.
Why a sculptural plaque may need 10 mm or more
Three-dimensional work needs material to move away from the surface. The 14.4 g wudao and lotus plaque is 10.6 mm deep, allowing the figure and lotus to read through changing highlights and touch. More depth also means you should pay attention to the cord, impact risk and how the pendant sits on your clothing.
Ask for the side photograph, not only the front. A clear number, a visible edge radius and a short wearing video will tell you far more than the phrase thick or thin.
