How to Choose an Entry-Level Hetian Jade Plaque
A calm starting point for first-time buyers: what to prioritise in material, shape, thickness, documentation and price.
Your first jade plaque does not need to be the largest or most expensive piece in a catalogue. It needs to be understandable. A simple outline, honest photographs and a clear material record will teach you more than a dramatic sales claim.
Spend on the stone and the finish
Look for a compact structure, an even polish, comfortable edges and no obvious structural crack. Colour is personal, but a bright surface should not distract you from texture and completeness. Ask to see the front, back, side and transmitted-light views. If those images are unavailable, you are being asked to buy on too little information.
Start with a shape you can live with
A plain wushi plaque is often a good introduction because the outline and surface remain easy to read. Our 10.5 g, 6 mm gold-skin peace plaque is light and straightforward to wear. A slightly deeper 9.5 mm peace plaque offers a heavier hand feel and more presence. Both can be useful references when deciding what you actually enjoy.
Do not confuse a low price with a bargain
Compare dimensions, weight, natural inclusions, carving labour, certificate information and return terms. A larger plaque with weak structure may be a false economy. A smaller, complete piece with thoughtful edge work can bring more daily satisfaction.
Questions worth asking
What does the report identify? Which details are natural? Has the plaque been repaired, dyed or filled? What is the exact thickness? Can I see a current video? Clear answers are a good sign. You do not need to sound like an appraiser. You only need enough information to make a decision you can explain to yourself later.
